How I made ribbon rose using 1inch satin ribbon

Hey Omoge, how are you today? Here is how I made this fantastic high-quality red ribbon rose.

First, let me tell you that there are lots of fantastic hands made ribbon crafts you can do at home or in your workspace. Some of these are very easy to do while others are difficult and take a lot more time and practice to master.

Before we begin, these are some of the materials needed;

1. Sewing Thread of superior quality that is very strong for durable stitches.

2. Hand Needle; I prefer using a 1.5inch length because it's tiny and easy to pass and glide through fabric. It also helps to give a superb stitch.

3. High-Quality Satin Ribbon; There are different branded products with a high-quality ribbon. I love using mH or Two Rose for most of my craftworks. For this post, I will be using a 1inch wide satin ribbon.

4. White or Black Pad; This is for attaching pins or clips to finished rose flower or craft. I usually like to cut mine round in the form of a circle before attaching to the back of the rose.

5. Pins or Clips; Pins are for attaching to dress and the fabric wears while clips are for attaching to your hair. For this blog post, I will be making use of pins.

6. Scissors; For cutting and trimming. I prefer medium-sized scissors with soft rubber handle. Yisun happens to be one of my favorites.

7. Glue Stick or Uhu Gum. You can make use of the glue stick with the help of the glue gun. In case you do not have the glue stick, you can use Uhu gum. I prefer Uhu gum as an alternative because it has good adhesive quality. It holds fabrics together very well.

8. Glue Gun; There are different sizes and types of glue guns in the market. It is for applying glue to the fabric when heated with electricity by melting the glue so it becomes sticky. 

First, you place the glue stick inside the gun before plugging it to an electric source. Switch the power button on and wait for it to heat up for about 2-3 minutes. Press the trigger to inject heated glue on the surface of the fabric. 

9. Lighter; this serves as a flame source for burning the edge of the ribbon after cutting with scissors. There are different types and sizes out there but my favorite is Ada lighters.

10. Tape rule; for measurements. There are different sizes and length but I make use of the one of 60inch in length and 1inch in width.

The following are steps I used in making this fantastic hand made ribbon rose;

Note: There are two ways of making this type of rose. The first is by using thread and needle to hold the ribbon together while the other is to use glue. I will describe both with pictures below.

First, let's start with the use of thread and needle.

Steps; 

1. Double thread the needle so that the stitches you make can be strong and durable. Ensure you tie a knot at the end of the thread after threading the needle  

2. Cut 30inches length of ribbon and burn both edges with flame.

3. Fold about 3inch of ribbon diagonal, forming a right angle.

4. Fold again diagonal, forming another smaller right angle. 

5. Hold fold together with thread and needle. This forms the stem of the rose.

6. Twist the other end of ribbon while folding the rose stem as you twist. Make sure you sew each twisted fold at the base of the rose stem with thread and needle.

7. When you are through, sew the last twisted fold together at the base of the rose.

8. Cut out a white pad and trim it round. Fold it in two and cut two lines between for attaching pins.

9. Attach a pin to the white pad and sew at the base of the rose with thread and needle.

Now let's go through the steps using glue.

Steps;

1.  Cut 30inches length of ribbon and burn both edges with flame. 

  

2. Apply glue to about 3inch of one of the edges and fold forming a right angle.

3. Apply glue at the midpoint of the angle formed and fold forming a smaller right angle and rose stem.

4. Apply glue at the base of rose, twist, and attach ribbon to the base.

5. Continue step 5 till you get to the other edge of the ribbon and attach it to the base of the rose.

6. Cut white or black pad in a circle, fold into two forming a semi-circle, and cut two lines in the middle for pins and clips.

7. Attach pad with pin or clip to the base of the rose.
